How can I get involved in Track & Field?
Maidenhead Athletic Club competes in track and field competitions across both Junior & Senior age groups. Across all competitions our ethos is participation, having fun and trying to improve over time. There are no minimum standards required and we can coach junior or senior athletes from complete beginners through to event specialists.
Competitions
Juniors currently compete in the Alder Valley League. There are also various development competitions, Open Meets and higher level competitions available for athletes to enter. The latest competition fixtures are on the Junior What’s On page.
Seniors (and older juniors in the U18 age group or above) compete in the Southern Athletics League. Find out more and see upcoming fixtures. Again, there are plenty of Open Meets and higher level competitions that athletes can enter. The only requirement to compete in track & field is to be an England Athletics registered athlete.
Your first few competitions may seem a bit daunting, but everyone is really supportive. This blog post will give you an idea of what to expect.
Coaching
While Junior coaching is established with regular sessions (details here), our coaching for senior track & field athletes is evolving. The amount of coaching our volunteers can deliver is limited but our coaches will always do their best to support senior athletes who wish to try or progress in track & field. One of the best ways of supporting the club (and in many cases developing as an athlete) is to become a coach as this will allow us to expand our coaching offerings. The first steps require only a modest commitment of time, either in person or virtual. Find our about becoming a coach.
Officiating
Want to get involved but don’t want to compete or coach? Becoming an official is a great way to do this! Officials are just as important as participating in the events, as in most competitions, it’s mandatory for a participating club to send officials. Also, our team’s overall score in league competitions is boosted by fielding a full team of officials. Learning to officiate starts with a simple 2 hour online course and is a great way to support the club, or indeed take you first steps towards officiating at a national or international meeting like the Olympics. We currently have officials for Track, Field, Time-Keeping. If you’re interested in becoming an official check out the available courses on the England Athletic or alternatively email headcoach@maidenheadac.org.
Performance Tracking & Club Records
Every performance in track & field competitions is automatically collated against your profile on The Powerof10 website so you can easily keep track of PBs and set yourself goals to improve! Find out more about results recording here. We also celebrate outstanding performances at every age group and record club records across all track & field events. See who the current record holders are and the records that are up for grabs! Perhaps you might be inspired to challenge and existing club record. With the recent age group changes in Junior athletics, every single club record from U12 to U18 is up for grabs from the start of the 2026 season. For adults, as well as the overall club records to shoot at, we also record records in each 5 year Masters age groups from V35 and up.
