Becoming a Coach

Maidenhead Athletic Club has around 20 coaches who inspire, support and work to develop our athletes, across all events, ability levels, aspirations and age groups (including seniors). Becoming an athletics coach is a challenging but ultimately rewarding pursuit. Currently at Maidenhead Athletic Club, we have a growing junior and senior section and we are always on the look out for potential new coaches. Therefore, members and parents who wish to gain a coaching qualification may be eligible for financial support by the Club including reimbursing the cost of training and qualifications in full.[1]

There are a range of coach education courses available to suit your interest in coaching athletics. These courses are facilitated by England Athletics and all lead to a recognised UK Athletics coaching qualification. There are courses that enable your to assist or lead activities for juniors and/or seniors. For more information on the options available, see the the coaching qualification pages on the England Athletics Website.

For those embarking on coaching for the first time, your qualification will enable you to assist in coaching sessions planned and led by one of our more experienced coaches with a higher level qualification. Our experienced coaches are on hand to support you through your development as a coach and for some this may encourage you to progress along the coaching pathway with further qualifications.

For existing coaches, there are plenty of opportunities to further develop your knowledge and skills.  The England Athletics Coach Development programme includes many courses and workshops covering technical disciplines as well as techniques for coaching specific groups.  For more information, please see the Coach Development section on England Athletics.

Whether you’re thinking about taking your first step towards a coaching qualification, or are an experienced coach looking for further development please use the links below to find upcoming courses in the South East area:
