Competition yes, but FUN FOR ALL!

Each running year (April to March), a number of local races are nominated as ‘target races’. The aim of these is twofold: firstly, results contribute to the Club Championship awards; secondly and more importantly, these races are an opportunity for MAC to turn out as a team and HAVE FUN! All members are encouraged to enter and run. So whether you’re in the running for an award or want to be part of a sea of red, white & black – turn up and be part of #Team MAC!! #WearTheVest We’ll sort out the finer points of the scoring system later :-). Note you DO NOT have to run them all.
2026-27 Target Races
For the year April 2026 to March 2027 the MAC target races are listed below. Following feedback and suggestions there will be a bias towards shorter distances than in 2025/6 to encourage greater participation in each race with as many entrants as possible. The races have been chosen to bring an element of variety while keeping them close to home – for easy travel – and supporting local running clubs where possible.
- April 6th (Easter Monday) – The Mortimer 10K – to help overcome the disappointment of no Easter 10 this year. This is a delightful semi off road race through wooded tracks, just south of Reading. Enter here: https://www.racinglinerunning.co.uk/mortimer10km : use MAC 10% discount code RLR10PCD

- March 7th 2027 tbc – The Goring 10K. Extremely friendly and scenic race in the undulating Berkshire countryside. Very popular with those who ran in 2025 and 2026
- March 27th 2027 tbc – Maidenhead parkrun. Amazingly successful in 2025 with over 100 MAC members running and post run refreshments in the clubhouse. The championship points will be awarded according to age-grading, so anyone can win!
Don’t wait, Get yourself signed up and booked in. Remember – over the season your best five target race results will determine your total points (overall and by age group) to decide who lifts the trophies at next year’s awards celebration.
Remember to always enter with your club name set to: Maidenhead AC. This is very important as it allows to find your results for processing afterwards.
The Road Running club championship is decided based on your best FIVE performances over at least TWO DIFFERENT distances. Points are allocated according to your position among MAC runners and the fewer points the better. There is a very significant (1000 point) penalty for each race fewer than five completed.
There is an overall trophy for men and women plus trophies for each age category. You don’t have to run all target races, and you don’t have to be competitive – the target races are also an opportunity to be part of the MAC community supporting each other and celebrating our amazing team spirit!
