The trail shoes have been washed, spikes replaced and the socks have been restored to their former colour. Or, perhaps like me, there’s a pile on the utility room floor, that really needs sorting before next season starts! Yes, the TVXC season has drawn to a close and unless you’re racing at the nationals or intercounties, it’s time to look forward to warmer, less muddy runs (boooo!)

Now, this season saw a bit of an unusual occurence in recent times – a fall in overall participation in cross country by MACcers. However, it wasn’t a drastic fall and numbers are still healthy and way above the levels we used to get prior to the 2019/20 season and ahead of most, if not all other clubs. Indeed, newer members may wish to read the brief history lesson in the introduction to last year’s stats rundown. I put at least some of the fall down to the rearranged Saturday Sandhurst fixture (worst attended all around) and some clashes with other races, junior comps and plus some pretty fierce weather conditions – great if you’re a die hard mud worshipper, not so good for those who like to take part but don’t necessarily enjoy being whipped by wind & rain and frolicking in freezing cold mud baths… (weird!)

Other stats
- First Saturday fixture that I can remember!
- Attendance:
- It was a season of two halves (in more ways than one!). 3 events (Bracknell, Metros & Datchet) were pretty close to the MAC attendance records, but low numbers at TVT, Marlow & Sandhurst) brought the average down.
- Highest attended event: Datchet (overall: 62, men: 34, ladies: 28)
- Overall highest attendance by club
- Highest attendance of any club in 3 events (2nd highest in 2 events and 3rd highest in 2 events)
- The cheer squad was out in force in all weather – THANK YOU!!!
- MAC maintained a record many of us are VERY proud of. While a couple of the other teams have a short team of fast runners, you’ll find a long list of MACcers right down the results sheet at every event!
- 10 different scorers (Ladies)
- 18 different scorers (Men)
- Finishers in the TOP 15 AND BOTTOM 15 in all races (top 10 and bottom 10 in quite a few)
Last, but by no means least, this season saw our passionate captain Dennis Murphy hand the baton over. He continued the growth in numbers and success that had been building; he managed to achieve the holy grail that MAC strives for – creating an inclusive team for everyone AND bringing home some silverware! Thanks skipper – you smashed it! His record in 3 seasons:
- Overall: 1st, 1st, 3rd
- Ladies: 1st, 1st, 2nd
- Men: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
- 1192 MAC finishes
