The Club’s AGM takes place tomorrow at 8:00pm – it is really important that you try to attend.
Following on from the extremes of last week’s Endure 24, this week’s news has MAC members taking part in triathlons and a challenging off-road half marathon:-

  • Wargrave Sprint Triathlon
  • Royal Windsor Triathlon
  • Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon
  • Hampshire Hoppit Trail Half Marathon
  • Penn Seven
  • Chiltern Chase

Wargrave Sprint Triathlon
On Sunday 18th June, Jon Oliver took part in his first Open Water Triathlon taking on the Sprint distance (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) at Wargrave. It was a lovely friendly local event with around a hundred competitors, staged by volunteers raising money for the Wargrave Lido.

The Thames was calm and warm at the 7:30am start, and the temperature was climbing rapidly during the cycle which took in Burchetts Green and Hurley before returning to Wargrave for the run. The kids armed with super soakers at the 3km point and the finish were welcome, and it was good to be done by 9am as the sun was really beating down by then.

Jon finished in 1:21:47 for 12th Male and 13th individual overall.
Swim: 16:19
Bike: 40:00
Run: 22:16
with 3:12 in transitions.

Nuffield Health Royal Windsor Triathlon
Rosie and Chris Ellis, and Lesley Kernaghan took part in the Windsor Triathlon, also on Sunday 18th June.  Rosie did the Sprint distance (750 m swim, 19k bike, 5k run).  She finished in 1 hr 46 mins 32 secs: 461st out of 542, 127th female out of 185, and 7th out of 15 in her age group (50-54 female).

Chris and Lesley did the Standard (Olympic) distance (1500m swim, 40k bike and 10k run). Chris finished in 3 hrs 2 mins 43 secs. Lesley found the run challenging due to her recent fractured pelvis but she completed in 3 hrs 16 mins to win the 60-64 age group.

It was a beautiful sunny day, and for those who started early the temperature was ideal.

Escape from Alcatraz
Lesley Kernaghan also took part in the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon in San Francisco on 11th June. However it was not so much of an escape as the swim was cancelled by the port authority due to very dangerous currents. It turned into a duathlon, but the bike up and down the San Francisco hills and a run along the coast line were amazing. Lesley completed in 2 hrs 54m mins to be 5th in her age group.
Hampshire Hoppit Trail Half Marathon
On Sunday 18th June three MAC members took on The Hampshire Hoppit Trail Half Marathon. A tough mainly off road course, made even harder by an 11am start time and the hot weather.
Results as follows:-
Gerald Killen                 01:59:01
Carolyn Lockett             02:17:56
Jeremy Lockett              02:18:48
Penn Seven
On Sunday 18th June Yash Maudgil  and Helal Stephan (Stephan) ran the Penn Seven race, starting  at 11:00 am on and covering 7 miles of roads and hard surfaces. It was a beautiful sunny day with temperatures exceeding 30°C. Though a challenging hilly route, it was very scenic, starting at Tyler's Green and going through Penn and Hazlemere villages. It was very tempting to stop at the pubs along the way! The marshals, residents and spectators were wonderful - it was just like a carnival - certainly worth supporting in future years!
The results were:-
Helal Stephan                1:27:18
Yash Maudgil                 1: 27:41
Chiltern Chase
Four MAC members took part in the Chiltern Chase on Sunday 4th June.  The results took a long time to come out which, combined with an email that went astray, led to a delay in reporting – however, better late than never!
The Chiltern Chase is a multi-terrain event at Ewelme in Oxfordshire over three different distances.  The following results are all chip times:
15k      Jon Kew            60:49 (11th overall and 4th MV40)
10k      Carolyn Lockett  52:59 (3rd FV55)
            John Rickman    60:00 (1st MV70
5k        Jeremy Lockett  29:18
Jeremy changed his plans, running the 5k instead of the 15k due to a heavy cold.
