Green Park Triathlon
Thursday 9th March was a glorious spring day with blue skies and balmy temperatures at Green Park, Reading for the Red Nose Day triathlon event. Alex Del Campo and Jon Oliver took part in the longer "sprint" distance (400m swim, 17km bike, 4.5km run).   The course for the bike and run segments was nice and flat but quite exposed to some strong headwinds. Alex beat his time from 2 years ago completing the course in 1hr 05mins 59.9 seconds. Jon finished 7th individual overall in his first ever triathlon in a time of 1hr 00mins 48.3 seconds. Split times were as follows:
Jon:       Swim 6:34.    Bike 31:11.        Run 20:34
Alex:      Swim 9:15.     Bike 33:53.      Run 20:34

Dash in the Dark
Four MAC members joined 240 others to take part in the inaugural Dash in the Dark hosted by Datchet Dashers on the evening of Saturday 11th March.  This new 10k trail race was held in Black Park and consisted of 2 laps taking in some of the darkest parts of the park!  There was a very relaxed, fun atmosphere to the event and the course was decorated with fairy lights and bike lights with very encouraging marshals at all major junctions.  To top it all off at the finish the organisers provided a free cup of tea and slice of cake to all competitors.  We all enjoyed ourselves and would do the event again though some of us need better head torches!  Jon Kew was 1st vet to finish, in 5th place overall

Jon Kew                        39:49
Alejandro Del Campo      43:28
Leila Oliver                    53:38
Shazia Ahmad                63:46

National Inter-County Cross Country Championships

Also on Saturday 11th March, MAC's Nathan Brammer and Luke-Lom Hynes were competing for Berkshire at Loughborough in the National Inter county championships.  The boys ran extremely well in this high quality national championship with over 250 other competitors in their races. In the U13 boys’ race Luke-Lom Hynes finished in 33rd place; in the U17 mens’ race Nathan Brammer finished 77th. Nathan was the 3rd Berkshire runner to finish and beat his local rival from Cookham on the line!

Both boys are running in English Schools Cross Country Championships next Saturday in Norwich.
Barcelona Marathon
On Sunday 12th March Greg Marsh ran the Barcelona Marathon. In his words, ‘Race went as usual ... great first half, terrible second half! Gun 3:36:18, chip 3:35:13.’
