Maidenhead Half-Marathon report
The Club had 37 finishers in this key event, with lots of happy people achieving personal bests or making their time targets. The weather deteriorated later but the race was just about over in time.

Tom Easten was first home for the Club, in 19th place (3rd in his age category), and Laura Macgregor was first lady. Dave Waterman achieved second in his age category.  Other notable achievements were: after running every HM since its inception, Sarah Fogg finally beat 2 hours; Sandeep Bhangoo improving by 13 minutes since her debut HM in 2016, Celine Sturiale getting under 1:50 for a PB; Chris Sutton also getting a PB after running every event.

The official results we have are here. Any revisions, will be announced next week.

Woking AC Open for Juniors
Abbie Jones receiving silver medal

On Sunday 3rd September a few Maidenhead Junior Athletes attended the Woking AC open meet. The day started dry, but conditions deteriorated mid-morning onwards. Athletes who took part were U11 - Maddie Sturt, U13 - Isla Page, Lucia Firma, U15 Olivia Phelps and James Badham, U17 Abbie Jones. Full results aren't in yet but we had two medalists on the day, Isla Page in Discus who won a Bronze medal and broke the club record, Abbie Jones won Silver in 800m, she didn't manage a pb but was running with an injured arm, due to substaining an injury a few days prior to her elbow. Lucia Firma managed a pb in 100m and Isla also got a pb in Long Jump coming 4th just missing out on a bronze medal by 3cm.

Swindon Half Marathon

Emma-Louise Webb took part in this new event by guiding Louise a visually impaired athlete, finishing in 2 hours 42 minutes. This new event which was put together in just 10 months, passed many of Swindon's famous landmarks and lots and lots of roundabouts! Emma says:

"As a guide runner before an event you do worry about the obstacles you may face on a route like the quality of the road underfoot, clear signage etc. However the new route was a breeze to run round, even with a massive hill at mile 11. We received fantastic support from the volunteers and crowds, which all contributed to make it a very enjoyable event."

Newbury Triathlon
Four club members took part. It is a 300m swim in a 75m heated outdoor pool, a 22k bike and 5k run - ideal for first timers:
  • Chris Ellis came 134th in a time of 1.19.58.  He was 24th out of 58 in his age category
  • Gareth Ralphs 165th in a time of 1.23.27 and 33rd out of 58 in age category
  • Rosie Ellis 290th in a time of 1.38.30 and 17th out of 33 in age category
  • Suzy Ralphs 299th in a time of 1.39.26 and 18th out of 33 in age category

Parkrun overseas

Parkrun fanatics John and Benita Scaife have now added the Ottowa, Illinois (south-west of Chicago) event to their growing collection of runs in exotic locations. They were both top-10 finishers, and Benita came in as first female.

New member and trialists

The Club would like to welcome Jordana Eshelby as a new member. Just in time to be included in the Maidenhead HM results.  We also have a number of guests trying out the Club over the coming weeks - no doubt galvanised by the sight of lots of runners in our streets - so please make them welcome.
