MAC News Report

17th October 2017

Most of the races in this week’s news report are a bit closer to home than last week. However the prize for the most exotic location goes to Ross Lindridge who ran the Palma De Mallorca Marathon.
Races in the newsletter this week are:-

  • Palma de Mallorca Marathon
  • Frieth Hilly
  • Manchester Half Marathon
  • British Beer Run – Windsor and Eton Brewery 5 mile
  • Cross Country – Chiltern League and Thames Valley League
Palma de Mallorca Marathon
Ross Lindridge ran the Palma De Mallorca Marathon on Sunday 15th October, according to him,  his slowest Marathon so far but probably his best effort. It was quite hilly and warm with over 2000 feet of elevation gain. He finished in 4 hours 59 minutes and 15 seconds (04:52:30 chip time).  He spoke to a few local runners along the route: one from Reading Road Runners and one from Marlow Striders.

Frieth Hilly
On what was a warm October Sunday Jon Oliver, Leila Oliver, Carolyn Lockett and Abbie Jones lined up on the start line of the Frieth Hilly 10k and 5k in anticipation of a course that would live up to its name.  The course did not disappoint: the first two miles were downhill and from then on in the course steadily climbed; slightly descended; climbed slightly then descended to finally finish on a long uphill stretch back to Frieth Village.

Abbie Jones ran the 5k and was 1st lady, pipping former member Penny McCrabbe to the prize.  Jon, Carolyn and Leila ran the 10k with Jon first home for the club followed by Leila then Carolyn.  Official times are currently unavailable but Jon's watch said 44:33 and Leila's 55:25, Carolyn was a minute or so behind Leila.  It is very enjoyable mixed terrain but predominantly trail race with proceeds going to the school.

Manchester Half Marathon
Jon Kew travelled north to run in the Manchester Half Marathon on Sunday.  He finished in a time of 01:28:31.
British Beer Run – Windsor and Eton Brewery
On Saturday Simon Lerigo ran well to finish second in the British Beer Run – Windsor.  He ran the 5 mile distance in a time of 00:31:13
Chiltern League Cross Country
Saturday 14th October was a lovely warm day for the opening race in the Chiltern Cross Country League in Oxford.  MAC was very well supported by juniors with a number of debutantes to cross country.  Nearly all of the U11 girls and boys were first time runners and all did very well.  Ava Neeves had a good run for the first time and was first home for the MAC girls in the U15.  Abbie Jones also had a very good run in her first season in U20/17 women.  A special mention goes to Sophia Fleck-McGrath who, although she had a challenging start, persevered and helped by her dad made it round the course to the finish which took some determination.

Thames Valley League

The first cross country of the season was held at Hillingdon Farm Field and was hosted by Metros.  It was warm but the course was challenging, including a swamp, a river (twice) and some precipitous hills
The men's team finished in 4th place and the ladies in 10th place meaning MAC finished 7th overall: the best start to the season so far. If you would like to see the detailed results you can access them through our website HERE .  The next race is on Sunday 12th November at 11am hosted by Datchet Dashers and is a pleasant run along the river from Eton.
