5k Summer Series
Seven 5k races competing against our friends/rivals at other Thames Valley clubs. Each club hosts a Tuesday evening race between May and July, which makes for a nice change of scene. Clubs compete to lay on the best food spread afterwards as well…
The 5k Series is only available to club members and their guests. Paid-up members pay £7 for a series number or £2 for individual races. Guests pay £3 per race.
Jon Oliver is Maidenhead’s 5k organiser. Dates and results in the main 5k Series page.
The series itself is now over for another year, but MAC Helpers’ Handicap is still to come…
5k Helpers’ Handicap and BBQ
Tuesday 1 August – MAC clubhouse
Open to anyone that has run at least two of the above 5k Summer Series. More details to follow.
Fit for Life week
Saturday 20 May 2017 – Sunday 28 May 2017
Helped by Lottery funding, the aim of the Fit for Life Week is to encourage RBWM residents, 14+ to adults and families, to take part in sport and physical activity on a weekly basis. Maidenhead Athletic Club is pleased to be involved.
Coach Leila Oliver led two open sessions on the Braywick track: An evening session on Wednesday and ‘Lunchtime Laps’, on Thursday (unsurprisingly!) at lunchtime. It was great to see people coming down to try out something different and see what our club is all about. We’ve already welcomed our first new member who enjoyed it so much they joined the club that day!
Leila Oliver described the sessions as “a great advert for sport in general as well as our club”. Leila went on to say, “I was so pleased to welcome runners of all abilities to the sessions. I hope that by giving people the opportunity to try something different that they could see what a friendly bunch we are (and not a scary elite club as our name might imply!) If it means they continue to enjoy sport then that’s what it’s all about; if they find some new friends at our club, then even better!”
The Club has a busy social calendar through the year.
The MAC Summer Party takes place at Bray Village Hall on 16th June at 19:00.
Pub runs on a summer’s evening are ever-popular.

Le Touquet weekend
Friday 4th August – Sunday 6th August Bookings now closed
How about two nights in France to run a half-marathon or 10k race?
The Le Touquet weekend is an annual Club fixture. The races take place at 19:00 on Saturday, which helps protect from the August heat (this is northern France, however). Typically 10-20 members make the trip, coordinated by Zaf Alam.
Arriving at the hotel on Friday gives us most of the day on Saturday to enjoy the town, the beach, the dunes before joining 3,000 other runners. A nice Sunday lunch, trip to the hypermarket, then back home.
We share cars, with Le Touquet Paris-Plage only about 40 miles (1 hour driving) south of Calais. Zaf will help connect drivers with passengers, with each driver responsible for their own Eurotunnel or ferry bookings. The hotel has an underground car park which is safe and secure. This costs €30.00 for the two days. Eurotunnel cheapest fares are £122 return, P&O Ferries £121, to be split between 3/4 people. And don’t forget: the driver will want some petrol money.
Two nights B&B at Hotel Red Fox will cost €135 per person on a twin-room basis. Zaf will reserve the rooms but you pay privately on checkout.
Entries are made by individuals via the organisers’ website: http://www.touquetsemimarathon10km.fr/. The site still refers to the 2016 race but the organisers have indicated by email that 2017 entries will open “by” 18th May. The entry fee is a very reasonable €16 and €14 respectively. Be quick, because the races fill up.
Medical certificates will be needed when race numbers are collected on or before race day. The wording of the certificate is quite specific. Please download from the website. Unfortunately, the MAC club affiliation number/competition licence is NOT accepted by the race organisers.
Sorry: there is no 2k option. Geddit?
£200 per person should cover all the listed expenses, with meals (other than breakfast) and incidentals extra.
Please let Zaf know you’re interested in making the trip. Any questions, Zaf can be reached on 07754-068072 or email zafaralam – at – tiscali.co.uk
